Hunter Buildings Partners with FMF Engineering to Offer Facility Site Services

HOUSTON – December 30, 2009 – Hunter Buildings and Manufacturing, a world leader in the design and construction of blast-resistant buildings, is proud to announce the addition of Hunter Site Services, a new “arm” of the company that will focus exclusively on the field assembly and post-installation services associated with blast-resistant units.

Hunter Site Services will offer the full spectrum of components for an efficient, cost-effective field assembly, including oversight and completion of a full on-site erection of single to multi-complex blast-resistant units. To offer these services, Hunter has teamed up with Houston-based FMF Engineering, Inc., a registered, full service engineering firm that specializes in structural, mechanical and piping applications. FMF has core competencies in construction management, project management, facility siting, preventative maintenance, process control and petrochemical engineering. FMF will aid in the field design, installation and operational support for all Hunter Site Services projects.

Hunter Site Services will integrate Hunter’s resident technical knowledge of design, fabrication and assembly of blast-resistant buildings with FMF’s successful track record as a registered engineering and experienced field assembly firm to provide full control over project execution, timeline and cost coordination to customers. Currently, permanent and leased building options are available with ongoing reliability, routine and preventative maintenance, and mechanical integrity inspections. Hunter Site Services also offers an extended warranty for each customer.
The demand on refineries in the current market has led to a need for comprehensive site services. These services assist in leveraging a plant’s resources by not tying up their current personnel or internal organization on execution of installation of blast-resistant units. Without the added burden of assembling a blast-resistant unit or site, a refinery can continue to concentrate on other value added process and operating type projects.

“Hunter has such a solid reputation in the blast-resistant industry,” said John Meyer, president and founding partner of FMF Engineering. “With the inclusion of FMF, we hope to give refineries and petrochemical facilities the opportunity to achieve their blast-resistant needs all under one entity.”

John Meyer will serve as President of Hunter Site Services, bringing 19 years of broad-based service experience in consulting, engineering, construction and research. He offers great understanding of international contracting and project execution, diversifying services domestically and successful market entry in new businesses. John received his bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering and his master’s degree in engineering (project management) from the University of Texas in Austin. He has worked for such companies as Fluor Daniels and has successfully operated two different engineering businesses, one in Corpus Christi and one in Houston.

“John brings so much knowledge and invaluable experience to Hunter Site Services,” said Gary Scroggs, CEO of Hunter Site Services. “By teaming up with John and FMF, we are bringing two great resources together to provide full system service that will be an asset to our customers and their facilities.”

Gary Scroggs will serve as CEO of Hunter Site Services. With extensive knowledge in the sale, leasing and manufacturing of blast-resistant buildings, Scroggs is also the Director of Strategic Projects for Hunter Buildings. Prior to joining the Hunter team, he served as president of MB Industries and PetroBlast Leasing. Scroggs has 35 years of experience in engineering, construction, and manufacturing in the petrochemical and chemical industries. He spent 31 years with Olin/Arch Chemicals where he was a member of the management team and served as Plant Manager for four of their key manufacturing facilities. Scroggs is also experienced in Responsible Care management (specifically process safety management), engineering standards and codes, turnaround management and more. He has also hosted seminars on API 752/753, cost effectiveness of working inside/outside blast zones and other similar safety topics.

“After 10 years of designing and manufacturing blast-resistant buildings, we knew there would come a time where we would want to offer companies the full package—building and setup,” said Scroggs. “This is just another step in giving our customers what they want and need for the safety of their personnel.”

Hunter Site Services will provide installation of all aspects of Hunter’s blast-resistant buildings, which are manufactured at its 100,000 square foot facility in Houston, Texas. Buildings come custom in special designs and configurations as indicated by client, and are also offered in varying blast overpressures and durations, as well as Low, Medium, or High response levels. Other building features include, but are not limited to, Class I Division 2 electrical, gas detection, positive pressure and NFPA 496 Compliance, complete data and communication packages and final checkout and commissioning. Leased and permanent units are available in single or multi-story and in a range of sizes from 200 square feet to 12,000 square feet or more.

“Our knowledge of the design of blast-resistant units ensures that the field installation will give each customer the final product that will meet their detailed specifications,” said Scroggs. “The same quality that comes with Hunter’s blast-resistant buildings is also carried forward into the Hunter Site Services field work and assurance to the engineering design of the unit.”
